Soooo in Cooper City, Florida, Commissioner John Sims is under fire for posting racially charged comments on his Facebook page. Of course, he came out and apologized but does it even matter? When will these public figures get the memo….if you serve the public, you do not have the right to speak freely without suffering the consequences of being voted OUT by the people. Cooper City
According to Huff Post Black Voices:
The comment Sims posted Nov. 30 read: “Just wanted to let you know … today I received my 2013 Social Security Stimulus Package. It contained two tomato seeds, cornbread mix, two discount coupons to KFC, an ‘Obama Hope & Change’ bumper sticker, a prayer rug, a machine to blow smoke up my ass and a ‘Blame it on Bush’ poster for the front yard. The directions were in Spanish. Yours should arrive soon.”
Cooper City is populated by both Black and Hispanic residents. Together, Hispanics and blacks make up 20% of the population. To make a statement like this and not consider the feelings of residents of the city you represent wasn’t anything short of being highly disrespectful and racist.
